Carbon Steel - Overview

Carbon steel is a special type of steel that has a higher concentration of carbon than other types of steel. It is an alloy metal consisting of iron and carbon. Carbon steels are usually relatively soft and have low strength. They do, however, have high ductility, making them excellent for machining, welding and low cost. It can be classified into three categories according to its carbon content: low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel and high-carbon steel and all of them have different applications across industries.

Industries

High carbon steel has many different uses such as milling machines, cutting tools (such as chisels) and high strength wires. It is primarily used within the following industries

  • Oil and Gas production
  • Building and Construction
  • Automotive
  • Home Furnishing
